Never let saying the right thing get in the way of getting the power to do the right thing.

New York is not a dangerous city.

It's a very silly place filled with people who think they are very mean and touch but who aren't really good at being mean.

@gl33p Another aspect: I don't have a huge list of everyday carry items. Phone, wallet, keys, backpack with my journal, a snack bar and foldable water pouch (empty).

I can throw money at problems. It doesn't even take much. I don't need to be prepared for a whole lot.

@gl33p Yes! I travel with a bag that has had customs agents get suspicious it's so small. “Two weeks? With THIS?”

In my case it's to make transit options easy. "Oh there's a bike I can rent right here? cool." "Oh, I can pack onto a chicken bus for damn near free? Sure." "Oh you wanna share a […]

@gl33p Funny thing about the waiting for departures, that one doesn't resonate for me because I really enjoy the time spent people-watching. (And find the rearrangement quite stressful, and often wrecking the reason for the trip.)

Another way this plays out is I’m usually quite willing to do something that might wreck tomorrow, and then have a 'fuck it' day. (I do however not tend to be able to wreck multiple future days, nor suffer that much when I wreck one. Just to the level of needing to cancel plans)

I keep realizing that one of my main differences in behavior is that I don't let fear of loss keep me from connecting with people nor existing comfortably in places.

It plays out in some specific ways. I'm usually the first to volunteer to lend something, and I'm willing to (and in fact most […]

holy cow Affinity just changed their app's ToS for _software I already own and agreed to terms for_. Gross.

Dear Github, please take this seriously. (but you won't because people are expensive and AI is [artificially] cheap.)
Github Actions survey:

How satisfied are you with GitHub Actions? 2/5

> Your documentation has become abyssmal, sprawling and each section incomplete, sometimes wrong, and reports of errors ignored. Permissions are particularly grievous, but also design patterns can only be inferred. Inter-workflow triggers are poorly documented. github.actor is poorly documented.

How could we improve GitHub Actions?

> Get a person with IA and pedagogical skills to spend some time paying close attention to the information architecture, and fix it.

@cowperthwait Napalm seems reasonable. I just want it in my dishwasher and not my lungs as I'm picking it out.

He buried the lede — you have a chance to work with @beep! As someone who’s had that very privilege on multiple occasions I’ll just say you won’t regret it.

We launched our product at work this week!

I don't usually post the marketingese, but I'm really proud of a lot of the work we've done and I really think our core technology is pretty cool.

Spice Labs is live. We’ve launched our Surveyor and Topographer products; available now at […]

Aha, yep. https://www.yalumotor.com/middle-drive-e-bike-kit/223

Spiffy. A bit spendier than I want and I have no idea if they're good, but the ability to run a 32! tooth chain ring is impressive. Bafang can do 36, but the chain line is super compromised, and anything smaller […]

It might be a YALU motor? Reverse image search turned up some. It's definitely a CYC clone. Nice thing about those is they can have smaller chain rings, which makes hill climbing without overheating easier. A light rider can already climb stairs with some of these motors, at my […]

I suppose there's also this monster, which looks like a clone of the CYC Photon, but I can find no information about it https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256809614522932.html

If anyone in the local area wants a TSDZ2B to retrofit a bike, I'd let it go kinda cheap. A lighter rider who just wants to putter a bit would do fine with it, I'm just heavy and ride in all kinds of subpar conditions.

So the full decision matrix is:

- BBS02 48V 500W (750W) (a minor upgrade); would let me use a better battery and have a better margin when the battery gets low.
- BBSHD 48V or 52V (1000W); can be run with an extra spicy 52V battery for more power
- TSDZ8 48V 750W (1200W peak) […]

Man I was just gonna buy a slightly upgraded motor for my bike but now I realize all the motors are on sale and now I have to decide TSDZ8 vs BBS02
