Zeker, maar je ziet het soms ook bij wereldmachten, die juist op hun hoogtepunt staan en te veel hooi op hun vork nemen, zoals het Tweede Duitse Keizerrijk in 1914.

In 't artikel wordt (toch enigszins verrassend) bij de landen waar een "groeiend aantal mensen" positiever over Poetin en Rusland denkt ook Polen genoemd. Ik zie dat 't 6% is. Weliswaar is er langzamerhand minder sympathie voor Oekraïne (de herinnering aan historische conflicten speelt mee).

De minister werd vergezeld door Franstalige ambtenaren en journalisten. Ze knikten instemmend.
Ik begreep 't misverstand meteen. Onze studenten studeerden ook Duits. "Rar" betekent in die taal "zeldzaam", dus interessant (verg. Engels "rare"). Tien jaar later ging de studierichting ter ziele. 2/2

Sometimes – but this is the exception – the West-European perceives in “Eastern” Europe something positive, which he has lost (and would like to recover), e.g. heroism in defending oneself against some form of external (or internal) autocracy and/or totalitarianism. 5/

(the West-European constructs himself as “diverse”, though he is almost always-the-same in his moralistic universalism – the last vestige of West-Europe’s former omnipotence; a form of ressentiment – Nietzsche – “par excellence”). 4/

Hence the attacks on “Poland” (though after Tusk regained power they have almost ceased) and “Hungary” which are seen as monoliths... 3/

He finds this “other” in “Eastern” Europe and tends to attribute to him all what was “wrong” (and now despised) in his former self, though sometimes it reemerges at home (“fascism”, “racism”, “populism”). 2/

W tym autorka jest dość bliska jednemu z bohaterów "Ksiąg jakubowych", zmaltretowanemu przez tradycyjną historię literatury księdzu Benedyktowi Chmielowskiemu, autorowi "Nowych Aten..", jednemu z ostatnich encyklopedii barokowych w epoce, kiedy Oświecenie zaczęło dominować umysły na "Zachodzie". 3/

Moja teza: w tej powieści zaangażowanie "polityczne" autorki nie stanowy przeszkody dla wartości "estetycznej", ponieważ jej "wybujała" wyobraźnia nieustannie wymyka się spod kontroli ideologicznych założeń. 2/
