We have also been talking to the Kyoto Board of Education for the past 13 months, and requesting they end this unfair dispatch system and implement direct hire. Some steps have been taken, but not quickly enough to save our jobs from declining further next school year. We need more attention/focus.

After three collective bargaining sessions, ALTIA CENTRAL offered nothing. NOTHING. Not even a bad faith lowball offer. This, too, is likely illegal under Japanese labor law, and we complained to the Labor Commission--but it takes months for them to investigate.

We had no choice but to strike.

7/10 of us unionized and demanded
1) 250,000 salaries, the minimum to live healthily in Kyoto;
2) To pay our full transportation fee instead of 16,500 cap;
3) To pay our health checks they illegally didn't pay;
4) To extend our contract from 3/25 to 3/31 to help secure our insurance and pension

In Kyoto, there are 41 high school teachers. 31 are JET Program, directly hired by embassies and sent to Boards of Education (BOEs). JETs are paid 330-360,000 a month, and dispatch teachers in the exact same school, doing the exact same job, are paid 210,000, on one year contracts with no security

急須で淹れるお茶文化は、みんなが一度にお茶を飲み、それを淹れることを担う人がいて、成り立っていたのではないか。

つまり、急須で淹れるお茶って、何人かが一度に飲むときにいちばん効率的だった。一人分を淹れるのはあまり向かない（電気ポットも持ってる人が減った）そんで、みんなが急須でお茶を楽しむためには、「みんなのために淹れる人」がいたわけで、それが良くないとなったときに、「じゃあみんなで交代に」とはならず、各自ペットボトルで、が歓迎されてしまったのではないか。
