I know at YouTube scale this generates an absurdly huge amount of data, but I really wish it saved the the time code where I interrupt playback so I can resume later. Like every other video streaming service does.

Is there a way to force Preview.app (macOS) to “OCR" a document, so I can select text and search on it? Most of the times this just works, but not on these 100+ page service manuals for whatever reason.

Not too bad! Interestingly playback is fine, but reverse doesn’t work at all (although rewind does). Fast forwarding is done with some suffering. I have to look into the mechanism again to see if there are belts that need replacing. But for now, success!

Testing for real. We have tracking and stereo, which means the video and hifi stereo sound tracks are being read! And the tape is properly wrapped around the head! Sweet!

Pretty much the same architecture internally. Front panel doesn’t even require removing screws to pop out. But this model doesn’t have any electronics on the panel itself so it’s less impressive.
