There's a bunch of new folks so

Hey I'm Jen & I write queer SFF & Horror. I write about sapphic babes who flirt with sarcasm & knives and are bad at feelings.

I publish in different places but you can find my work here:

It's cover reveal day so I got u dis.
Snag the new cover on sale all month long using the spooky sale section of the link in my bio.
The new cover of Cinders of Yesterday is shown. Emilie (blonde, curly hair) is on the left leaning against Dani (long black wavy hair, leather jacket, holding a glowing blade). Around them a fire rages. The top reads "Jen Karner", middle text reads "Cinders of Yesterday" and at the bottom "Legacy of Shadows Book 1"

The new cover for Cinders of Yesterday drops tomorrow on IG at 10am and I am VIBRATING with excitement.

I just hope my readers love it as much as I do.

Frightreads was an excellent event for me this weekend, along with getting some critiques on my YA Horror novel HALLOWED GROUND from @futurescapesww.bsky.social

Now I get to recover for a day or two before I start my revision plan, but my cup is full and I am exhausted and happy.

I guess this has probably already gone viral somewhere but I am simply dying at this picture of a bear that looks like it hired a photographer to do a glamour shoot

It's @pitchdis.com day! I don't have a book that's ready so I'm sitting this one out, but if you're eligible, throw your pitch into the ring!

idk if I so much have an author "brand" as I write people who are fighting back against things larger than them with every tool in their disposal.

After all, a creature backed into a corner will fight to survive, any way it can.
articulatedream.bsky.social
Last book: A hunter & a medium take down a paramilitary operation attempting to "cleanse" magical people and discover a parasite manipulating hundreds of people in the process. [SINS OF SURVIVAL]

Next Book: A pack of traumatized 20-somethings fight back against property development & god.

I'm on strict "not allowed to work on a book" rest for at least a week.
I am prepping for Frightreads & Futurescapes, but the workload is V different and my usual writing hours are now "vibing to video games" hours.
articulatedream.bsky.social
After several years of being stuck and then unstuck, and 9-10 months of drafting, Sins of Survival is done...for now.

It goes out to my team later this week, and the editor in November and I'm so excited but also absolutely exhausted.

I would like to order 1 3-day coma plz.
articulatedream.bsky.social
Put on Jurassic Park for drafting background noise, and knocked out an almost 2k chapter in just over an hour.

5 chapters to go, and then I can shoot this baby off to beta readers and sleep for a week.
articulatedream.bsky.social
Did I write a new chapter? yes
Was it technically supposed to be part of the last chapter...so I still have 7 to go? Also yes.
articulatedream.bsky.social
Acquired a new dope orange cardigan so OBV I'm curled up in it tonight while I draft.

I mean, how could I not hang out in it immediately? IM WEAK
articulatedream.bsky.social
7 chapters to go and I'm supposed to go to the beach this weekend, which means spending half of my night prepping for that.

I'm gonna squeeze in writing time this weekend if I have to go hide under a bed and type under the covers I swear.
articulatedream.bsky.social
Broke the 80k mark on Sins of Survival last night.
I haven't been this deep into a draft since spring of 2021.
I started writing Sins in early 2021, and since then it has been a singular obsession that has haunted my time.
In November it goes to the editor.
2026 release, here I come.

Devolved to the point where I feel like a shady book dealer standing in the alley with a trench coat like.

"Hey kid, you want some queer urban fantasy? I've got hunters, witches, and flirting with knives in haunted houses."

*flashes open coat to reveal Cinders of Yesterday*
Cinders of Yesterday is shown to the left. On the right is a list of tropes: F/F, southern gothic, haunted bloodlines, monster hunter, hunter/witch, found family, slow burn
Under it reads: Cinders of Yesterday, available now in digital, paperback and audio, JenKarner.carrd.co

For the time being I'm only doing US events bc I'm looking for things that are within 5 hrs drive time of Baltimore City.
articulatedream.bsky.social
Okay friends. Events with author alley, bookish selling events, cons, book fests.

Which ones do you know of that I should know about? I have a handful on my schedule but I wanna diversify, and could use 8-10 more each year.

If you know of a great event [east coast preferred] LMK below!

Migi has their post on OUAC out. Mine will be coming later this week, including deets about the Discord, doubloons, staff bailing, and more bc I am neurotic and watched everything begin to slow-mo explode in real time.
articulatedream.bsky.social
Today was exhausting and almost my *entire* take from OUAC just had to go towards a new laptop bc my PC was having so many issues today I had to leave work early and have a panic attack about it.

I'm SO tired of never getting ahead, and instead getting shafted every time I think I've made progress

Home from Once Upon a Con, and while I'll have things to talk about later it was a decent con for me.

I got to meet readers, sold some books, and got to run panels for the first time.

Imma need moar bookish events in my future...
articulatedream.bsky.social
Packing the car for Once Upon a Con, and yall I spent 10 mins desperately running thru the house looking for my author banners before I found them in the bedroom.

I'm fine. This is fine. I'm definitely not running on adrenaline and excitement.

Once Upon a Con is nearly here! If you're making the trip, swing by my booth and say hi, or find me at one of these panels!
Cinders of Yesterday is displayed on the Left, while Jen leans against a brick wall on the right. Above are the words "Queer author of Oberlynn" and at the bottom is the Once Upon a Con logo. A floor map showing which booth Jen will be at during Once Upon a Con. Jen's Schedule for Once Upon a Con. Images of stickers, art, and Cinders of Yesterday are shown as examples of things Jen will have at her booth.
