what legal recourse do artists and museums have against international militaries stealing and using our work to commit warcrimes, since apparently that's a conversation we need to have now.

Losing my mind and what look like video game assets but instead were used to justify war crimes and genocide in the real world
NEW: Since October 2023, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit has released dozens of 3D animations illustrating alleged Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iranian sites

The style is unmistakable: satellite zoom-ins, black & white wireframes, and red-textured houses - a new visual language of war.Our analysis of 43 official IDF videos found recycled 3D environments, spatial inaccuracies, and assets lifted from unrelated artists and institutions. We traced over 30 unique assets to Washington-based 3D creator Ian Hubert, who makes bespoke models created for his sci-fi project Dynamo Dream, available to his Patreon subscribers.

Models of parking lots, antennas, + pipes were repurposed as Hamas and Iranian military sites @evanhill

Fascinating work here tracing how the IDF recycled 3D assets from a cyberpunk sci-fi art project, the Scottish Maritime Museum and elsewhere to populate its widely-seen models of supposed enemy locations in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran. One of the most infamous, the alleged underground Hamas command center at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, used to justify an unprecedented assault on the biggest medical center in Gaza, was actually an animation the IDF had used the previous year, saying at the time it was a tunnel beneath a UN school.

BLACK MIRROR X YELLOWFACE

A Black feminist essayist eviscerates a biracial leftist YouTuber for regurgitating her takes.

But when the footage goes viral it sparks obsession—in her, in him, in the watching public.

Illustration of a drow standing in front of a large white snake with wings. The drow has long white hair and dark green clothing with copper accents. He holds a dagger above his head with blue magic arcing between the blade and his hand. They are in the Underdark, with blue spores and mushrooms surrounding them.

Those who know me know Sherlock Holmes is a HUGE special interest of mine. A few years back, I decided to write my own homage to it.

Enter: the Case Files of Sheridan Bell, a fantasy-mystery series inspired by Sherlock Holmes & Irish mythology! Mystery 2 begins its serialization on 10/30!
A pale pink book cover with the title: The Case Files of Sheridan Bell: Sheridan Bell and the Vanishing Beast. A lone figure in a long dark ulster coat. He has long dark hair and a faint smirk.

I mentioned the detective work before, so I’ll take today to say trying to write conspiracies to unravel in tabletop is fun, but chaotic. Watching them try and piece the clues together can be stressful, especially when they talk themselves out of the right answer.

I just really love plot twists ( especially character identity / twist villains ) so I just say hey, OMG, what if?? :)))c

And I give my characters secrets. The rest depends on character pov I suppose ?

Because I like to play on the "you think you know them but in the end maybe not so much" factor

Originally inspired by the name of an inn where I lived, "The Buzzard Roost" follows the events of a high-profile murder and the (anthro) birds trying to solve the case long after it turns cold.

I have a strong interest in mysteries, birds, the Roaring Twenties, so the combination was inevitable.

If you get interest from an agent who's already passed on your book, take it as a sign that something about your premise is WORKING. You can re-query with an acknowledgement that they have passed, but you wanted to follow up just in case; or you can just take the compliment and move on.

The Gerzean Blade started as a writing prompt from my group.
I wrote chapter 1 in 40min.

🌩Then I KNEW I had something solid.⚡️

My love for Cahokia and moundbuilder culture, a poster in my office showing ancient stone tools, a recent watch of Cowboy Bebop, and my anthropology degree all combined.

Yep, MERCY's going back into KU next month. It's something I've been considering since itch turned its back on nsfw creators, but since KU now has library support, it's helped make the decision. Other platforms didn't perform as I'd like, which kind of became the nail in the coffin of it all.
Returning to Kindle Unlimited November 1st The main reason for leaving KU was to attempt to accommodate more platforms for readers. This was to be done via library support and through the DRM-free platform, itch.io. Unfortunately, itch has become unusable for me since cracking down on adult material, despite being legal to sell. On top of this, readers simply didn't utilize other platforms. Apple, Kobo, Google, and many others severely underperformed.

KU now has built in library support, so my main qualm with it has been eliminated entirely. I'm not happy to have the ebook return to Amazon, but I would also prefer to actually make money off of my work. With things as hard as they are for a queer author right now, sometimes I must choose what will help keep me afloat.

As ever, though, if you'd like to obtain it directly from me, for payment or not, you need only ask. I would still like to accommodate you. So what does this mean for the future of MERCY? November 1st (assuming Amazon doesn't lag), the book will be obtainable via Kindle Unlimited again.

The anniversary of its release is coming up, and I will likely have it on sale for the week surrounding that anniversary proper, and free on the day. The book hasn't been on sale for a while, so I hope this will somewhat make up for this change.

Thank you for sticking with me all this time, and thank you for your understanding as we shift back.

The Husband Poisoning Society is a murder mystery where a groom is killed at his wedding reception. I wanted sonething new compared to the first book.

I climaxed the Whodunnit at roughly the midpoint. The story then becames a: "WhatDoWeDoAboutIt?"

Garden of Rotten Roses has some elements of mystery, but the first and only "true mystery" I wrote was also the first spec script I wrote. A film set in Yorkshire, England, it followed a would-be writer and a detective in the wake of the death of a celebrated local actress.

I still like the...

#Paleoctober2025 day 7 paleoart sketch of the extinct conifer Sequoites.

#Paleoctober #Paleoart #Sequoites #Enantiornithes
The genus existed until the Miocene, but I chose the Late Cretaceous Sequoites dakotensis so I could include an enantiornithine bird. The juvenile avialan is begging for food from an unseen parent perched atop the conifer branch with a cone and speculative leaves below it. The scene is overcast with fine rain.
