considering booking a flight just to pick up a dream commission! in all seriousness this is such a cool concept, I hope you get some cool prompts and have a great thought bubble! physical commissions are the best 🖤

I don't want to go back to twitter mostly because I (do) think it's an ideological cesspit once the algorithm breaks and I (do) like the curation tools here, but after a certain point what (I) want doesn't matter if my art is no longer allowed and everyone leaves. find me and my wares in the grotto.

I have no interest in moving to another platform because I am tired of ceding digital ground but the change to community guidelines and the punitive abuses against innocent users by the moderators of a frankly insular, large forum sized platform does not inspire morale.

oh you’re in good hands then! 🙏 manifesting all the changes you desire and even ones beyond your wildest dreams your way

congrats! wishing you the best! if I can offer one piece of advice I wish I would have known, it's going slow! both with insertion, injection, and removal. makes the whole thing sting less. happy for this next chapter for you!

that's all to say ; I love cannibalism. I love what it can be a metaphor for ; grief, systemic violence, abandonment, loss of culture. not just love. and so much is lost when people only want these shallow, disconnected approximations of the genre they're interacting with. they miss out!

especially anti-native and antiblackness. even "cannibal" itself, as a name, is a post-colonial word born of a misnomer for the arawak peoples. these things, along with the european propensity to eat people of color before their own (see, the donner party) really complicate the "metaphor."

cannibalism has a really interesting history in terms of its place in the gothic and horror genres. I would argue it's actually due to the european obsession with the "primitive" cannibal, and that the "dark other" that sits central in most horror and gothic media is inextricably tied to racism,

at that point it's kind of camp.

your work has such a beautiful "rent from stone" quality. like it just feels so tangible and carved.

will be getting this and diving into it tonight. highly anticipated ; always love to see your work!

I think you're onto something there — thinking about how many people think a friend just going through something is "trauma dumping" or "expecting emotional labor" when really that person is just existing. they can't handle a minor disagreement in real life, let alone fictional abuse. it's sad.
sabattons.com
it's all "cannibalism as a metaphor for love," and horror film stills, and chain necklaces from fast fashion companies until an artist takes the genre and their craft seriously. until it gets too real, and you're forced to confront that "gross" and "afraid" live so close to curiosity and desire.
