I agree that the LLM makers are at fault for confusion around the term "AI," and I think it's entirely intentional. I think they want to be able to equivocate around the term, and say things like, "We're curing cancer," when their chatbot is clearly not.

It is beautiful and fragile, and humans can live lightly enough on short-grass prairie and high alpine to even be mostly as populous as we are, but we can’t as *colonizers*. When we immigrate to a desert or high arid alpine, we have to change, we cannot change the place.

fun fact: the last time i wasn't met at the door with a chair it's because we got diverted to an outdoor disembarkment, in the rain, at night, and i had a full blown hyperventilating panic attack halfway down because i CAN walk but in THOSE circumstances?? my vestibular system FREAKS THE FUCK OUT.
