I think that mentality is a result of the testing culture and the idea that success in college admissions and life is dependent upon checking all the right boxes. Expertise & soft skills don’t enter the picture at all 1/2

You’re right, it’s not glib. Moral relativism is now glaringly intentional, planned, and celebrated. The “fashionable nightmare” is now lived reality, having taken root in the US evangelical church.

If they won’t read they shouldn’t be in any AP classes at all. They shouldn’t even want to be in AP classes if they don’t want to read. When and why did high schoolers taking “college level”
classes become normalized? The system is broken.

Please reject people who insist that everyone is crooked, or that everything is hopeless. Most people are decent and nothing is hopeless. Someone wants you disengaged or apathetic, or angry at whatever. The thing to do is engage, care, and move with kind purpose. That’s the point

I’m looking forward to reading it. I’d say two generations, though. Both ours and our kids’ generations were betrayed. It’s impossible to say “what might have been” had such toxic teaching not been part of our family story.
