Essentially, I argue that arguments that derive the existence of mathematical objects from reference in true statement are logically invalid, despite being *formally* valid.

That just as it is impossible to derive an ought from an is, it is impossible to derive existence from stipulation.

It was harder for them to imagine than modal realism.

I had some unbaked (and perhaps incoherent) thoughts on the Liar Paradox:

Any Google search could of course always return websites full of lies and falsehoods. But the prominence of the AI summary on Google's result page gives it a stamp of authority it does not warrant.
asgeirberg.bsky.social
People don't talk enough about how Google forces a bullshit AI summary on its users with every search. Anything anyone searches for comes with a heap of falsehood.

Given Google's prominence in society, this should be considered an outrage by the general public.

I'm not extensively read in Carnap, so if he did write that, then it was probably in something obvious.

This sounds familiar to me.

Amateur view. AI bubble shows that there is too much money chasing too few opportunities for genuine innovation. The solution is to take a medium/long view and put much more funding into basic science in universities rather than cutting as is happening now. (But I would say that wouldn’t I?)

You're fine. Haddock is abundant in Iceland, that's the only reason it's preferred.
asgeirberg.bsky.social
In Iceland, Haddock is the most commonly used fish, with cod being second. You can use any white fish though—particularly if its left over from a previous meal.

As a complete amateur, it looks to me that Starmer has so thoroughly internalised the idea that the Labour Party must adopt more right-wing policies and attitudes to win that he cannot even change course when that course of action is demonstrably destroying his party.
asgeirberg.bsky.social
But seriously, @jowolff.bsky.social, I really don't understand. What is your analysis of the current situation? Why is the Labour Party so hopeless at politics?
asgeirberg.bsky.social
Looking at it from the outside, it is completely baffling. Why is the Labour Party so useless? They rival even Democrats in uselessness—they might actually be worse, come to think of it.

Given the use/mention distinction, one might claim that this post is not about Trump.

But it is about not posting about Trump—does the post then "inherit" that aboutness and thus is about Trump?

Ég stal þessu frá þýsku meme-i um Deutsche Bahn. :)

Could either of you elaborate? What happens?

Mine was also extremely anti-climactic. I finished it in the beginning of 2020 and then the pandemic rolled around.

The defence was on Zoom and meeting anyone for a celebration was illegal.

Oh, I meant to mark that it's 15 years since my dissertation defence. Possibly the most weirdly anti-climactic event of my life - I was so nervous I didn't sleep at all the night before, and then I got there and no-one on my committee seemed all that inclined to ask me hard questions.

I wrote my BA thesis on Two Dogmas. I'm still not sure what the argument even is.

It might be me.

What's the custom and law surrounding the Union Flag? Icelandic law forbids altering the flag in, including writing on it like that or wearing it as clothes.

That spares us sights like these, since nationalists can be easily embarrassed by pointing out that they are disrespecting the flag.
