After battling with dry air for a bit, #Typhoon #Neoguri is now rapidly intensifying in the subtropics of the Western Pacific. The future of the storm is still uncertain, as it could get slingshot towards Alaska, or recurve towards Japan as a strong Typhoon.

#Typhoon #Neoguri is beginning to rapidly intensify, with curved banding evident around a nascent eye. We're about to be treated to some subtropics eyecandy!

The future of the storm is very uncertain due to a trough that may catch it and sling it NE, or it recurves towards Japan.

Two extremities: Hurricane Kiko (right) vs Hurricane Erin (left)
September 7, 2025 at 10:00 AM
Hurricane Hunters aircraft has found #Kiko to have (expectedly) weakened, however still a major #hurricane. More weakening is likely to follow as the storm ventures into cooler waters, and wind shear increases.

#Hurricane #Kiko: An island of moisture in an oceanic desert.

#Hurricane #Kiko is exceeding expectations once more with its fourth peak, looking stunning in all types of satellite imagery. The cyclone will soon become a threat to Hawai'i as a tropical storm. Recon will investigate the storm later today as well!

Very far out: GEFS and ICON have a possible extremely rare Medicane forming in the black sea. If this were to verify, it would be the 4th ever storm in the Black Sea, and the first since 2024 when a weak storm formed in the eastern flank of the sea.

#Hurricane #Kiko is on the brink of C4 intensity. The tiny storm is spinning away in the open ocean, however it may soon pose a threat to #Hawaii.

#Hurricane #Kiko has just developed a very rare feature: stable cirrus band. They form due to laminar flowing gravity waves formed by intense convection downstream.

A very similar effect is currently taking place in Hainan due to #Typhoon #Kajiki, where upslope flow is producing nearly stationary cirrus.
August 24, 2025 at 11:48 AM
#Typhoon #Kajiki is intensifying quite steadily in the South China Sea south of Hainan. An eye opened up on VIS and IR imagery. Intensification should be moderate for now due to the proximity of Hainan, however when it enters the Beibu Gulf it should have time to strengthen.e
