Histories of Mgo was important and one of my favorites of '24. Edwin Callihan's follow up novella, Strange Spells, from @filthyloot.bsky.social threatens to be just as special and loved.

At the behest of @bustermoody.bsky.social I picked up The Road, GNized by Manu Larcenet. I'm grateful I did, partly because of this panel. Oof, that's beautiful.

Been reading (& digging) Fever House but I'm gonna take a break to start one of my most anticipated reads of the year.

Yeah, I'd like to read it all too. What I could read said it's bad for comprehension when you're in early development but turns positive later. Then, the summation says it's bad? Maybe I'm not getting it cause I'm reading it digitally.

Everyone, I've invented an AI Running Back that will let me play pro football. Pretty jazzed. I'd like to thank Ford, George Miller, & Brendan McCarthy for their - wait, no. Disregard last statement. I made this.

So excited to be a small part of this TOC! I have short in here with art by the amazing @chrisacomics.bsky.social and letters by Matt Fox who also colored the story by @matthewmitchell.bsky.social and Buster Moody. I mean, this comic is just chock full of amazing talent. Look at it!

Big Pillar today. I've been talking to the artist I'm doing the mentor project for a lot about story tone & theme. The tone of this pillar is something that has stuck with me for decades. It wavers between inviting & violent in a way I'm still in love with.

We stalk the night, bloodsacks. And...also play hopscotch.

Two more pillars for the new project! The Traveller In Black was a collection of shorts dealing with the consequences of wishes and desire. And 'ol Gormenghast - A wonderful example of how fantasy doesn't need to be one time period.

Let's start with a big one. Karl Edward Wagner. I started reading him back in Jr. High, mid 90s. He stuck out due to plain beautiful prose and a stronger leaning into weird/horror. Every story felt slightly more...metal? Less formal and slightly indifferent to whether I dug it or not. I did.

Writing buddy has really hunkered down and insists we work on the couch. Luckily the laptop was within reach.

Thinking about Hellblazer made me pull out the story I did for DC New Talent Showcase. It was a cool program taught by @ssnyder1835.bsky.social and run partly by @whattheshea.bsky.social I did this Hellblazer short with art by Siya Oum. It's some of my favorite pages I've written.
