🚨The 21st Century Cures Act required patients to be notified of new test results immediately when ready

We showed the proportion of patients who:

1) Messaged their providers increased 4.5%
2) Made new appointments increased 2.1%

This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.

I've also been having some terrible luck of the draw, each submission I've gotten someone who doesn't understand a difference-in-differences model.

There's a multitude of studies using similar data with similar limitations, including several of my own, and those have been published in top journals. The difference? They had more politically palatable conclusions.

I'm having an incredibly hard time publishing a paper, and I can't help but think it's because it upsets the political opinions of medical researchers.

The level of methodological nitpicking exceeds anything I've encountered previously.

We just spent 6 months to add 1 figure to this paper. Some people said, "Couples aren't prioritizing men's careers. Men just have better earnings opportunities when moving."

Earnings effects of moves for couples on the left, singles on the right. Negligible gap between single men and women.
Event study coefficients that show that men's earnings rise more than women's among couples following a cross-commuting zone move (left panels). The pattern is muted or reverses among single men and single women (right panels).

Science can be such a headache sometimes.

This study has hit the headlines because the authors claim that it shows that soft drinks cause people to be depressed by negatively impacting their gut microbiome.

Several BIG issues with this 1/n

Oh my... I would have to check to see if the journal was blinded, just to make sure it wasn't someone I know pranking me because they knew it'd make my head explode!

I think it's been the bane of my existence, especially on some recent projects where people have strong priors and want to find any reason to invalidate the findings

I think that, as a field, we have fundamentally failed to teach our people (students, MDs, PhDs) to recognize the difference between (a) a confounder and (b) anything remotely associated with the outcome of interest

Evidence: Any referee report I've received

This is a devastating blow to the availability and reliability of news about the military for a military audience.

As of this week, @Militarydotcom as we knew it is effectively dead. Talented journalists and other guild members were fired Wednesday evening, and others have been pushed out. Several who are gone are veterans. (1/4)

I am fascinated by this guy who was a Higher Ed administrator and has now moved into teaching classes as a faculty member. He is documenting his whole journey on TikTok. Over the summer, he had so much excitement 🧵

Sharing some encouraging news re: CDC PRAMS. The CDC has indicated they will weight and clean the 2024 PRAMS data. Also, the PRAMS data collection system (PIDS) is up and running again and some sites have begun 2025 PRAMS data collection. Hopefully restoration of the ARF portal is coming soon too.
