I guess I think the point of RSV is preventing someone the majority doesn’t want from winning.
In my utopia, there’s lots of great candidates that have great solutions; it’s hard to decide b/w them bc they’d all do great. RSVs supposed to let you vote for them w/o the plurality opp factoring in

Is there inherently something in the system that indicates that voters weren’t like ‘I quite like both xyz and Frey, but I can’t put them both down as first choice?’ I feel like you can’t determine level of enthusiasm from the rankings.

People just mean that RCV encouraged campaigning to tend toward the typical Dem thing of ‘don’t vote for the other guy’ rather than reaching out with a really clearly defined vision of how things can be different.

That means straight up not enough people voted for Fateh, if they didn’t rank him at all. And it means more than half of voters didn’t mind if Frey got reelected.
