Indeed not at all how it was meant... It’s about recognising that some spaces have become closed off, and that many public conversations happen without academic voices. We need to re-enter those spaces and contribute.

💡 Key takeaways from #NorDev25:
🤝 Build alliances and coordinate efforts to tackle the existing challenges together
📢 Be more vocal – “invite ourselves to spaces we are not invited to”
✨ Left hopeful: “We must dare to invent the future.” @idos-research.bsky.social @eadi.bsky.social

💡Tomorrow is German Diversity Day. Tâmara Andrade, Dr Tatjana Reiber and Dr Anna Schwachula remind that #diversity means more than raising flags. It needs long-term commitment to structures & practices that foster diversity & prevent discrimination.

🚨Development Economists!🚨Do you use Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS Program) data, which had been supported by USAID? IPUMS ( @ipums.bsky.social ) and the UN Statistics Division have a survey for you. I just filled it out. You can too. #econsky

Users of the Demographic and Health Surveys, please take the United Nations Statistics Division DHS impact survey (form.jotform.com/250913880478...) regarding recent cuts. Replies inform future planning and advocacy. All responses are confidential and presented only in aggregate.

Cutting aid to increase spending on defence is a false economy and suggests a deep mis-understanding of global politics.

In a world of intensifying geopolitical competition, aid cuts render Western powers less powerful, credible and safe.

A thread, from someone working on aid for a decade

Subsidising secondary school had transformative impacts.

Female recipients had ~15% fewer unplanned pregnancies, 15% fewer children + significantly delayed age at first childbirth & marriage.

Over time, their offspring’s outcomes improved dramatically ⤵️
