“Shadow nation” is such a great way of putting this! When I started bumping into folks in alternative lifestyles, it made everything else in my life temporarily a bit more surreal. Even at my kid’s school drop off each morning, I’d look at every parent and wonder, “WHAT SECRET LIFE ARE YOU LEADING”

Back when I found out my blood is B positive, my immediate reaction was ‘My blood is only a lousy B-plus?!’ Then I realized I could interpret it as my blood reminding me to ‘be positive.’ It’s sappy, but weirdly it still cheers me up.

I love mushrooms, but my ex-husband HATES them: he can’t stand the slimy/spongy texture, or the earthy/musty flavor, or that they they’re land-based yet have gills. That last part actively freaks him out 🤷🏻♀️
