Working really hard to get a good grade in Bluesky.
Seeing this post made me think about hometown (which is broadly hated-upon) and how it's linguistic quirks make me love it and feel at home here. So, Happy World Linguistics Day from the land where the first syllable in "tiger" is the same vowel sound as in "bag" (Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada)
Happy World Linguistics Day from Montreal, Canada!

(I wonder how many different places we can get world linguistics day wishes from this year!)
Happy World Linguistics Day from Melbourne, Australia!

I don't need A MAN to play puzzle games with me because I am bad at them! I love spending time with my SPOUSE and also I am BAD at PUZZLE GAMES

Why is it that LinkedIn has games now? Did the LinkedIn people get tired of talking about business?

if any sci fi sound designers are interested, the fifth floor stairwell at my work sounds like an alien pipe organ is playing a single interminable chord for some reason. Could be cool.

It's ok I am grieving in my own way (Listening to the new Mountain Goats album while taking out the warm winter clothing)

I had a birthday cake today and I am sick so I didn't want to blow my candles out. I did a kind of chopping motion in the air over the cake and it was so much more satisfying to feel like a ninja! I recommend this as the new standard for adults with birthdays.

I was reflecting on this page of "Big Joe's Trailer Truck" (by Joe Mathieu. Random House, 1974.) and wondering why diners have this distinctive look. Looked at Wikipedia and found out that some of the earliest ones were re-purposed train dining cars!

A great piece of advice I got a while ago was to put the Wikipedia app on my phone's home screen. I have gotten in the habit of using that to search when I want to know something (and Google less often)

Every day in Adventure Bay:
Citizen 1: oh God, a fire! Should we call 911?
Citizen 2: Naw, I think we should call that kid
Citizen 1: The kid with all the-
Citizen 2: With the dogs, yeah

I was definitely not emotionally equipped for the Raffi concert
- finished a task that was stressing me out
- have a headcold
- hormones are hormoning

These are the conditions (apparently) under which "Photograph" by Nickelback will get me choked up

When my child grows up, she is probably going to have a moment when she says, "Wow, my mom sacrificed so much for me. And she complained about all the time."

Me in 2022: a painstakingly handmade pumpkin costume that took days to construct
Me in 2025: you may wear one of the hand-me-down costumes we already own

I can kinda see how you made the mistake, but I wanted three things from the grocery store, not "honey garlic toilet paper"

I was recognized today by someone I went to high school with and did not remember at all. I am forced now to consider what cursed interaction we had circa 2004 that caused me to be kept in her memory.

5 little joys of life:
1. A toddler explains something to you Very Seriously
2. Yell-singing a great song in the car with someone you love
3. A crunchy bit of potato
4. A row of sprouts where you planted some seeds a few days ago
5. The moment you discover the new book you are reading is A Good One
1 fresh clean sheets
2 drinking coffee and wearing a lil sweater on a cool late summer morning
3 petting a dog and he does a big sigh
4 feeding your friends a meal
5 falling asleep during a rain storm
Battle doomscrolling by posting 5 small pleasures in life:

1. Reading the same book as a friend so you can discuss

2. Beating the hard part of a video game

3. Making a fav take out food at home

4. Seeing new pics of my niece WHO IS THE CUTEST BABY EVER

5. Nice, cool days as we shift to fall

I have an ancient metal bathtub in my basement. This evening, maybe for the first time ever, I put water in it and stepped in. I had a disorienting, madeleine-like moment of suddenly being transported to my grandparents' house when I was five or six years old, taking a bath while visiting.

When I was about 5 I was eating the dust from the bottom of a bag of cheezies, and my older brother told me to stop or else I might "go salt crazy." I proceeded to believe that this was a real danger for the following decade.

Don't even act like you have any secrets from me, WITCHES. I learned all about you from a MAGAZINE I saw at the GROCERY STORE.

I had a dream in which I talked to a new coworker and she slipped up and called me by my maiden name. Then the dream coworker had to flounder to explain why she knew my maiden name.

I heard that Chappell Roan has a song called "Subway" that mentions Saskatchewan, so I can only assume it is about the brutal but necessary ennui of the small-town sandwich shop.
