Perhaps strong egos hate being told what to do (i.e., regulation by the government). Anything that impedes them must be destroyed! Authoritarians are more easily manipulated?

"Leaders in both parties, including President Joe Biden and both of Pennsylvania’s U.S. senators, oppose the deal on national security grounds. " It's idiotic that any of them oppose this deal in which Nippon Steel was going to invest in an outdated steel plant. That would harm national security???
