Finally!! Someone stands for something.
Breaking news: The White House has removed two top security officials at the U.S. Agency for International Development, the world’s largest provider of food assistance, after they refused to let representatives of Elon Musk access restricted spaces.

We are practically under siege and we’re going to die posting about it.
Just because it is in plain sight does not mean it is not what it is: A hostile takeover of the U.S. government by an unelected and unfettered power monger. Believe what you see, do not see what you believe.

Trump has so far blamed the deadly DCA plane crash on Barack Obama, Joe Biden, the Democratic Party, Pete Buttigieg, the 2020 election, and diversity. Especially, appreciated was his comforting the families who lost so many with his description of the “cold, icy waters.”

Nancy Mace has some serious transphobia. To behave like the House floor is some kind of bar and threaten Rep. Crockett that way?! Classy, real classy. 🙄
Rep. Crockett is a true gem and ally.

Whiplash between torrential wet seasons and devastating dry seasons is exacerbating wildfires.
Why a wetter atmosphere is making California’s fires worse
A heavy wet season in California’s past winters spurred more grass and brush, which then dried out quickly last summer. Those conditions are making fires worse.

The other place was no longer viable so the community had to go somewhere.

"Users may be in the honeymoon phase now, but the experience is likely to get worse over time...Just because Bluesky is at the earliest phase, before enshittification has started, doesn’t mean it won’t be enshittified.”
What do you find to be the best (and worst?) parts of the academic community moving over to Bluesky?

I personally enjoy the more friendly community here and the lack of algorithm baiting, but do feel like it is a bit insular and could limit our reach to the general public.

The Santa Ana’s are not new but climate change is still a huge part of this tragedy. Increasingly destructive weather patterns will continue to be a blight on humanity as long as humanity continues to be a blight on the planet.
ABC, NBC & CBS dedicated about 16 minutes of airtime last night to the California wildfires without once mentioning climate change.

Since the news failed do it's job, here's a short summary of the role of climate change and wildfire risk:
