I like the idea of a Tudor galleon with so many cannons it almost sank and it somehow has the name of a cartoon character who encourages kids to eat more fruit

Good that someone has finally just come out and said it. You can only be one star sign or the other - if not, it wouldn’t make sense

Ancilliary Justice by Anne Leckie.

GSEP: marooned component of a hive mind chases down a conspiracy that goes All The Way To The Top.

Bravura attempt at wrestling with other forms of consciousness (like A Fire Upon The Deep) and the political and cultural aspects are subtle but well-handled

I think Judith Butler was right - Gender Reactionaries should be seen as one strand of a counter-revolution aiming to push back against “Woke 1” and the positive social trends that lead up to it (gay rights, BLM, MeToo, and wider acceptance of trans people and migrants)

Colombian prez’s bank account details are public, someone found he’d bought a round / v cheap lapdance in a stripclub, he’s now dad-posting about not paying for sex, with an awkward “you could be meeting the girl of your dreams, here’s how me and your mum felt about each other when we met” vibe?

Stations of the Tide by Michael Swanwick

GSEP: Interstellar bureaucrat arrives on a planet that’s about to flood, to track down a magician who’s always a step ahead of him. Sort of Conradesque tale, if Conrad went in more for sex and psychedelia. Enjoyable prose and a scifi carnival atmosphere

Recently read Gnomon by Nick Harkaway. Thought it was super & fulfilled its ambitions. Multiple perspectives each with a compelling voice, across different eras but tying into the central narrative. Plus, funny!

GSEP: Cop in a soft-authoritarian utopia/dystopia is sucked into a big ideas mystery

Currently reading Rosewater by Tade Thompson. Really enjoying it so far.

Very well-plotted and paced and the main character is understated and fascinating.

Going zip tie mode. In my zip tie era.

It’s giving “frame joined by zip ties”, it’s giving “frame comes off on Thursday”

(Cannot wait)

Mostly reskeeting to share this incredible anecdote, though.

Jeremy should really find out what a “safety bicycle” was and is, and why they were called that!

Had my frame “dynamised” (i.e. “loosened”) - if all goes well, I will be frame free in 14 days.

Pretty heady stuff, although what am I going to talk about with strangers from here on?

Got out for a walk in the Peak the other day. I only needed a cane, as the path was forgiving even with the frame and limited mobility, and I took plenty of breaks for photographs.
