that they seemingly hold northsky with the same disdain hasn't passed me by, I don't think it's reasonable to villainise them over an irreconcilable difference in how they want to approach atproto

A trap in this community: We think the tech is great for its own sake. We can't assume users feel the same. #ATprotocol must win by having apps with great features for users, and do so without ever requiring a user to know anything about it. They can if they want, it's FOSS, but assume they won't.

Even if this project becomes the new way we internet and changes everyone's mental model, the VAST majority of users still would not know anything about the #atprotocol. See: how many people know the first thing about HTTP?

Why would they? People just want to meme with friends. They don't care about the tech. Never have.

It's why I'm hyped to see apps launch PDSes. Don't talk to users about #atproto, they don't care. Get them in the #atmosphere, then show them how it can be better than legacy internet.

yeah, it's an open source project and a lot of atproto devs have jumped on it to add social features. so, it's become a community project that a lot of people are having fun with.
