I'd be remiss if I didn't offer yet another preview of tonight's FORT90 TV (which officially launches the FORT90 BROADCAST SYSTEM, see www.wonderville.nyc/events/fort-...; tune in to find out what the hell I'm talking about) given how it also ties into local game culture happenings

In case you missed it, here is an actual video that the Department of Homeland Security posted on Twitter that they are now distancing themselves from it, in a cowardly move that should surprise one one, cuz Nintendo has made it be known that they are not pleased (see www.tmz.com/2025/09/24/p...)

"… Ask anyone who has experienced the show and they’ll tell you, it does not feel like 7 hours."

(via www.assesmasses.work)

Sounds cool and all, but the fact that it appears to be more successful than The Brick's Game Play is kinda upsetting, which I wrote about for Kotaku many moons ago…
I Went to the Theater to See Duck Hunt and D&D. So Can You. - Kotaku
For years, we have seen filmmakers tap into video games as a source of inspiration. And the relationship certainly contains a certain degree of logic.

"… You can expect the show to feel like a blend of super awesome game night at your friend’s house (with a hundred friends) and unforgettable movie marathon—expect a healthy dose of political uprising, delicious food served at intermissions, and lots of donkeys…"

Thanks to @unitof.com, I just found out about asses[dot]masses:

"A game controller sits at the front of the stage. Brave spectators take turns each night stepping forward from the herd to seize the means of production (the controller) and become the player. There are no instructions…"

… Oh, and here's another Katamari MV that I'll be playing next time, provided there even is a next time, given how I've made jokes about Trump during past broadcasts and all (via youtu.be/BjTNKumjMlA)

Here's a Katamari music video for anyone who missed it during this past Monday's FORT90 TV, as well as for anyone who needs a break from the current discourse (via youtu.be/vlZiUlleC-k)

I once tried to organize a 9/11 viewing "party" at @wonderville.nyc of my fave adjacent media (was gonna go all out, like getting a massive cake that resembled the Twin Towers) but it never came together for "reasons"… anyhow, I would have been wearing this shirt (via twitter.com/puppycelebri...)

IGN's website after 9/11 is....surreal.

Am also thinking about how the Dreamcast turns 26 years old today, holy shit.

Thinking about how video game art style peaked with this cel-shadey key frame facial expression stuff ❤️

... Here are some screenshots to hopefully job some memories (also, here's hoping a rip from said DVD makes it onto YouTube or the Internet Archive; you can find it on the former, and the quality is pretty bleh)

It's a very elaborate TV commercial for Golden Sun/Game Boy Advance. A marble statue and chandelier come to life to try to attack an orchestra.

Nintendo Symphony only happens to be low-key one of the absolute greatest video game commercials of all time, and turns out it can be found on a DVD, no biggie...

Got Siggraph 2002 presentation dvd for @colinwilliamson.bsky.social ¥400
I'm curious about what "Nintendo Symphony" is. I'll have to check it out before I hand it over.

I didn't have the bandwidth to promote it last Monday, so hopefully those who regularly tune into FORT90 TV caught @sixthtone.bsky.social's profile on the owner of the last arcade in a northeastern part of China (if not, the full video accompanies their article; see www.sixthtone.com/news/1017537)

Sorry for the belated response; trying to cross post the same material across Twitter/Bluesky/Mastodon & given how some folks have different handles across the different platforms (+ how some are not on a specific platform yet what should be their handle is being used by someone else) is a nightmare

As previously noted, today's the second half of the TOKYO NIGHTS + THE LAST GAME CENTERS opening & reception, so if you're in NYC, you should totally swing by Vitamin (16 N 1st St, Brooklyn, NY 11211); congrats @victoralonso.es & here's to the next show (also be sure to get his books)!

A look at some pieces for a Tokyo Nights volume 2 that sadly may never happened and the space's tricked out PSX + one of the many CRTs that the gallery has…
attractmode.bsky.social
It was also my first visit to Vitamin (see playvitamin.com), and gotta say that it's about damn time NYC finally had a game culture focused gallery space (something I tried myself to get started over a decade ago, but that's a story for another time)…

As an advocate of extolling the virtues of game culture, I have thusly been a fan of @victoralonso.es's work for quite some time, so it was especially nice talking to the artist, and re: a wide range of topics (fave game centers, the difficulties of book publishing, etc)…

Highlights from yesterday's TOKYO NIGHTS + THE LAST GAME CENTERS opening & reception, part one (part two is happening today, BTW/FYI)…

One last AnimeNYC highlight; I dug @zerotyranos.bsky.social's work the most & was crestfallen (yet not surprised) that their ASTRO Gaming Lifestyle Magazine was sold out (see zerotype.shop/products/ast...), hence the purchase after the fact online (hopefully my local USPS office doesn't destroy it)

One artist who made an especially strong impression on me was Gatonardo Da Vinci (see www.gatonardo.cl); the harsh reality of artist alleys these days is how one must now double-check to see if something is by AI or not, and this most definitely is not computer generated (plus I love cats)…
attractmode.bsky.social
Additional AnimeNYC artist alley highlights include @lizzyitzkowitz.bsky.social's Katamari cousins tote, @wrenmcdonald.bsky.social's Jet Set Radio risograph, and @reddachi.bsky.social's Sonic X Garfield pin…
attractmode.bsky.social
Tho the best stuff was, per usual, in the artist alley (even tho AnimeNYC's layout was not the best); one could find lots of apparel, like @heartmush.pink's Born To Splatoon tee, @itadakiyasu.bsky.social's Pokemon Cafe tee, and @aquiboni.bsky.social's Sonic X Shadow/Heaven X Hell tees…

Next, what's a con without stuff to buy? I naturally gravitated towards anything video game related, tho the thing that caught my eye the most was this Gradius III & IV for the PS2 ad in some magazine for Konami club members (that was not for sale)…
attractmode.bsky.social
I know PAX West just happened, but I didn't go, and instead have pics from AnimeNYC from the previous weekend to share; first are some cosplayers…
