As basic question from an ex-police reporter: Can some of our journalists detail the training regimen all these new federal agents receive? The lethal incompetence involving use of force and perameters of the 4A suggests they are just handed guns, masks and badges and told to go fuck people up.

This isn't even that. Dumping phone logs for calls prior to and during suspected criminal activity is rote investigative procedure and requires noting beyond a simple subpoena. It's pre-9/11 standardized police work.

You do not need a warrant to dump phone logs. This is horseshit by someone comfortable operating in the post-fact world of manufactured outrage and hype.
A simple subpoena gets basic call info and it is rote procedure for an investigator looking into any criminal or potential criminal activity.

You can't do either without a warrant. There is no public evidence or reliable reports indicating that Jack Smith sought or obtained court-issued warrants or subpoenas to trace or track GOP senators' phone conversations.

At Bondi hearing, Sen. Josh Hawley calls the pulling of phone toll records "tapping," which is an entirely different thing. You can't "tap" phone calls from 2021 in 2023, you can just look at what numbers they called.

A simple subpoena for call logs is not the result of some new surveillance-state statute. It is basic and necessary police work. And it is there for a nation of laws or a lawless nation to invoke.

This stuff isn't even new. A dump of phone records prior to and during whatever criminal activity you are probing requires no new-fangled statute. It's been obtainable by any cop for years with a simple subpeona. No judicial review required.

And further, when criminal activity occurs and is being investigated -- and Jan. 6 certainly contained criminal actions aplenty -- dumping cell calls prior and during the incident is basic and standard investigative technique.

Fucknuts, basic data on phone calls DOES NOT track phone conservations. It does not require a court order. It is not a wiretap. It is not even a more detailed look at phone metadata involving location or text info. All that WOULD require judicial review. For who called who? A simple subpeona gets it

It is not a problem. When police have cause to seek a subpeona or court order, it is their fucking job. Looking at phone records in an investigation of criminal activity is legitimate and basic. It requires a subpeona. And proceeding to anything more intrusive requires a court order/judicial review.

Listening to Josh Hawley whine today about how his phones were tapped (they were not), it's clear that so many of these Republican shitheels think they have the right not to be investigated. There's no such right. If a legal question arises, we are all a subpeona away from records being reviewed.
