Last but not least, I want to give shoutouts to the community in Austria which is the most active worldwide per capita. Nearly 1500 measurements in Vienna is really encouraging and shows the potential of this approach, now we just need to figure out how to get this amount of activity everywhere.

There also have been around 4000 Measurements in public transit so far, which honestly in median are way better than I expected initially.

Comparing the data with such studies done in schools it shows that aside from some concert venues or pubs there are barely any places with worse air quality then schools of many countires - it’s hard to call this anything other than a complete societal disregard for children.

One of the things also visible in the data is some seasonal variation. Now this is aggregated data and can be affected by confounders like a changing user base and non-seasonal differences in the air quality of the places they measured. But cursory looks at often measured locations look similar.

Looking at the median values by building categories, doctor’s offices are one of the worst places in regards to CO2-levels, combine that with the increased change of being there because of an infection and the increased chance of having especially vulnerable people this is less than ideal

So far a bit more than 20000 Measurements, ranging from 5 minutes to multiple hours each, have been recorded, around 80% of it in buildings and 20% in public transit, making it to my knowledge the largest dataset of its kind, which wouldn’t be possible without all the persistent contributors.

Leider gibt es nach wie vor die AWMF S3-Leitlinie in der im WHO-Evidenzbericht eine Gleichwertigkeit von Fensterlüftung und Mechanischer Lüftung postuliert wird und auch thermodynamisch abenteuerliche Aussagen getroffen werden. (Erinnert etwas an BGR / Infraschall) register.awmf.org/assets/guide...

And it's also been used the other way around to diminish PV / Wind in it's infancy ("it's only 0.5% of emissions it can't solve the problem") and to some extend up til today usually in non-sensical comparison to primary energy. Also reminds me of early stage pandemic downplaying...

Fläche allein sagt nichts über Urbanität aus, das hängt auch davon ab wie die Bevölkerung innerhalb des Kreises verteilt ist und das ist in NRW auch in den größeren Kreisen eher städtischer.

Auf Kreisebene ist man bei Corona bei bis zu Faktor 10 (einige Ostdeutsche Kreise oder Ostbayrische mit 3% und über 30% bei Coesfeld (gefolgt von einigen mit 29-27% und vielen mit über 20%). Man sieht schon ein deutliches Nord-West zu Süd-Ost Gefälle - das ist kein reines DDR/Westdeutschland Thema.

As @ukhadds.bsky.social et al have shown in pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC... the decay rates of SARS-CoV-2 Variants vary with CO2-Levels, decaying slower at higher CO2-Levels. I used a Wells-Riley-Model with an Example Setting (100m³ room, 4 people, 550ppm vs 1800ppm) giving these results:

I'll write a longer thread about this but just want to quickly throw this post here out - which is probably trivial for aerosol scientists ( @ukhadds.bsky.social ) but still an important aspect when it comes to Ventilation: Ventilation has a stronger effect on slower decaying Viruses.

im SRU Bericht von 2013 steht "Windflaute im Winter". Finde aber (kalte) Dunkelflaute völlig in Ordnung - es ist ja erstmal nur eine Zustandsbeschreibung einer schwierigen Lage (so wie in der Schweiz die da verbreitete "Winterstromlücke"), aber er ist natürlich teils völlig aufgebauscht worden.

Vielleicht noch interessant am Rande: der Grenzwert von 1000ppm beruht auf einer Veröffentlichung von Max von Pettenkofer aus dem Jahr 1858. Zum einen interessant weil er da die 1000ppm als harten Grenzwert ansieht dessen Überschreitung einen Aufenthalt im Raum "untauglich" macht, zum anderen

Ein kleiner Verbesserungsvorschlag wäre bei der Herkunft der Autos die Farben innerhalb des Kontinents ähnlicher und zwischen den Kontinenten verschiedener zu halten. Vermutlich müsste man nur Spanien und USA ändern und es würde schon viel einfacher zu erfassen sein. (Farben nur zur Hervorhebung)
