I noticed this (& several other) Queen cup during today's hive inspection. These 'upside down' cells are used to generate new queens prior to swarming (or to replace the current Queen if she is getting old).

The cups were all empty, so no swarming is being planned (for now 😜) 👍

Here in Australia our bees are enjoying some great Spring weather. This weekend's check of my backyard hives showed lots of nectar is being brought in 👍

Varroa mite has now been detected just 2 suburbs away, so unfortunately my girls won't be mite free much longer 😪 🐝🐝🐝

We have finally shaken Winter off and are enjoying some nice warm Spring weather here in Australia - allowing me to peek into my backyard beehives.

Spring has finally arrived in Australia, and the girls are making the most of the warming weather and early flowers to forage for nectar and pollen.

It's still a fraction too cool to peek inside the hives, but fingers crossed it will be warm enough in a day or two 🐝🐝🍯🍯 #bees #beekeeping

I popped a foundationless frame into the brood box of my backyard hive last week (it is summer here in Australia) and when I peeked today, the girls had already built out half the frame with new comb 💪
