A very happy birthday to Enomoto Takeaki, born on this day in 1836. One of my favorite Japanese historical figures, he was a Tokugawa loyalist in the Boshin War and was the first, last and only President of the Republic of Ezo. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Charles Web Gilbert, the Australian sculptor who made the original 2nd Aus Div memorial statue and the Broken Hill Bomber statue, died 100 years ago today on 3rd October 1925.

Friends of #PacificHistoryGuide and #Japan, would you rather see a blog post centered around Date Masumune 伊達政宗 or Saigo Takamura 西郷隆盛? There's so many great monuments, memorials and historic sites dedicated to these two men, and I'm having a hard time picking which to write about first.

My wife is hard to shop for. This year I’m talking her to a local farm because she loves pigs. They have an hour session that costs $50 and you can hang out with all the baby piglets. She’s very happy.

I do think it’s acceptable for someone who is a baseball fan to have their favorite team and also have a team they cheer for in the other league. Obviously their favorite overall will take precedence in head to head matchups.

Just added a butt-load of locations to the #PacificHistoryGuide on behalf of the three Great Unifiers of Japan - Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu. I'll most likely capture this in a blog post at some point, but for now the Chubu Region is ready for your visit, check it out!
