I was curious so I looked it up. Over 100k children. So that’s 25 per daycare. I’m willing to bet that a lot of those are small, <10 children. Frankly I’m a bit surprised it’s not higher. Though I suppose this doesn’t count Nannies and small home-based care that don’t advertise.

There are other systems of liberal democracy that mostly seem to be weathering authoritarianism better than the US. It’s not US system or dictatorship and no other options. Even where I live in Canada we’re doing better. Part of it is our more non-partisan Supreme Court system.

I hadn’t made that assumption. My assumption is that you think liberal Democratic institutions infallible (I know you’ll deny this, but it’s inherent in your objection) and that any criticism of the structure (not intent but structure) of liberal democracy is more dangerous than illiberalism

Plus authoritarian gerrymandering has already distorted that regular order.

My day is fine, thanks.

Good! But praising MTG is not progress, and calling someone out for praising her is what we need, so maybe don’t criticize the person doing the calling out. Especially with a snarky response.

You weren’t. Jonathan was. Are you reading this thread and assessing what it’s about, or just reacting to minutiae in the wording of Alejandra’s post? And that evolution doesn’t follow a straight line and never happens without resistance. We need to actively oppose those pushing for less acceptance.
December 30, 2025 at 2:12 PM
Do you include yourself and Jonathan in that assessment? Seems to me Alejandra is showing far more wisdom here than either of you.
December 30, 2025 at 2:08 PM
Sure. And how does praising an authoritarian legislator help toward that goal? How does using snark against a poster on bluesky? Normalizing authoritarians who abuse democratic institutions is bad, actually.
December 30, 2025 at 2:06 PM
In other words, your snark was not warranted.
December 30, 2025 at 2:02 PM
She didn’t say by what means it shouldn’t be allowed. Plus, the courts are a check on the illiberal tendencies of representative democracies. Far better do the legislature itself not to allow it. And this started with someone, rather than condemning these illiberal tendencies, PRAISING them.
December 30, 2025 at 1:50 PM
Are you sure about that? Because you shouldn’t be with the current authoritarian-stacked SCOTUS.
December 30, 2025 at 1:37 PM
It’s not too late to delete this mess. Liberal democracy requires respect for rights. Using liberal structures for illiberal means is classic authoritarianism. It’s not praiseworthy.

He could have just called it "The Age of (redacted slur): America Since the Civil Rights Act."

So much fiction about robots rebelling, when we really should have been worried about robots complying.

They are banned except for specialty lights I believe. So you just mark up 400% and call them “rough service” and bingo no ban.
December 27, 2025 at 3:23 AM
Ah! In that case, it makes even more sense to get out.

Remember that as an American emigrant you are still entitled to vote in US elections.

Did David Frum write this? Because that would be particularly hilariously tone deaf.

This clip kind of shows what’s wrong with both Weiss and Rogan. “What does this basic word mean…I don’t know the details but the vibe is bad”, and “we didn’t get into the important issues, but I really liked her”.

Did anyone “contentiously” disagree and if so do they still work in “her” newsroom?
December 22, 2025 at 3:52 PM
Sure, but one is the reason and the other is the excuse. Because she’s not the brightest bulb, she thinks the excuse will fly. Anyone with 1/3 of a brain can see right through it. You don’t need to be a journalist to realize the excuse doesn’t fly.

And droughts slow coal and nuclear plants.
December 22, 2025 at 3:25 AM
Plus he’s just plain wrong about coal rise by globally. Even IEA says it will decline in the next 5 years and they consistently underestimate how fast renewables get deployed, so it will likely fall faster than they’re projecting.
