One flash of anger, fear, or even overconfidence in the blurb gives me the reassurance that the author is going to take me on a human-oriented journey that is not emotionally constipated.

Blurbs that keep emotion at arm's length make me wary that the story itself is also going to hold emotion at arm's length. Which means that the author thinks awe and spectacle will carry the tale. Cleverness will disguise emptiness. A ceaseless grind of action, magic, and such.
