I would compare using AI on a production to someone still making Harry Potter or FNAF fanart in the sense that doing so is like throwing sticks onto the industry-franchise's bonfire to keep it going. If enough people stop, the flame dies out naturally because both time and people have moved on.

What's done is done with this game, but moving forward the studio is going to have to be extremely open about its stance on things else I'm just going to assume the worst.
That's how this kind of trust violation works.

they're both bad? but if I'm having to pick which of the two is worse it's a simple matter of asking which one burns through more resources, uses stolen artwork as training data, and has a current economic bubble supporting it.

The real problem for me is that there's now a huge question mark for the next game they put out: did they go back to using digital heroin because it's easy and they simply got better at erasing their evidence, or did they actually get shamed enough to not give legitimacy to the 'AI' industry?

I enjoyed the game and all, but this aspect sucks and counts as a mark against its production. It doesn't ruin the whole game, but we should probably discourage its use because even using it for placeholders is still using it, with all the energy costs and support of an evil industry tied to it.
