I want to start with an in-world job interview:

"tell me more about yourself"
"why do you want to join this adventuring party"
"what is your biggest strength and weaknesses"
"where do you see yourself in 5 years time"

then hit them with a "we'll get in touch" so hard, they'll make their own party

I've used this in a way: if the pcs don't interfere, everything is going according to a faction's plan, it just takes time
If the pcs start meddling, the faction scrambles to keep on track, and must make some snap decisions-which lead to moments where the pcs can mess up the plans even more

To give you an experience with a beginning, middle, and end, that you didn't expect or could have otherwise.
I'm liking short games more instead of long campaigns recently. I think you should let your PC's pass on.
