I still can’t forgive the WHCA dinner last year giving an award for that “Biden is old” book and everyone celebrated themselves for how critical they were of Biden while they refused to discuss Trump and disinvited the comedian Amber Ruffin because she had criticized Trump recently. Cowards.

Prior to Trump’s anti-DEI crusade and anti-trans pushes, controlling universities, all that stuff was already the law here. When Paxton was impeached for retaliation against whistleblowers, he was acquitted and his attorney had argued that AG staff answer to only him, not the office or ethics.

Our legislature can’t functionally override vetoes at all because the legislative session is too short and the governor sets the agendas for special sessions. He calls special session after special session to pass bills that benefit his wealthy donors. No compromises allowed.

Governor Abbott in 2021 punished Texas House Democrats for breaking quorum to stop an extreme voter suppression bill by vetoing the legislature’s budget (impacting staff and workers, not legislators) until they came back to pass the bill.

How do they determine when the backsliding started? If you live in the south, the aggressive anti-democracy oppressive tactics you see from Trump now started years ago.
