Happy birthday to Rob Blake, born on this day in 1969 in Simcoe, Ontario!
In his Hall of Fame NHL career, he won a Stanley Cup, an Olympic Gold, and the Norris Trophy. He was a eight-time All-Star. He added a second Stanley Cup as Assistant GM of the LA Kings in 2014.

On this day in 1987, Ron Hextall became the first NHL goalie to score a goal by shooting the puck into an opponent's net. He scored an empty net goal against Boston late in the third period. He said afterwards: "I knew I could do it. It was a matter of when."

On this day in 1965, Todd Kabel was born in McCreary, Manitoba.
He was the first Canadian-based jockey to earn more than $10 million in purse money. By the end of his career, he had recorded 3,306 wins with total purses amounting to $105 million. He died in 2021.
