This is by far the most important reason to use ALT text, but there are other benefits, too. For example, people who speak different languages can plug your text into a translator if they don't understand an image. It also improves SEO and discoverability on bluesky.
Just came across this on Mastodon and thought I'd share it for anyone wondering if adding image alt text is "worth it."

Have just played around 50 hours and knowing that there's still more content to come, I feel pretty confident in saying this.
It expands so much on the original concepts. Only dislike: Some weapons feel too clunky.

As someone with experince in accessibility I will say this:
As long as your alt text gives a clear description of the subject, then it doesn't really matter how you decide to go about it.
Go for longer, more descriptive texts or keep it simple, it's up to you.

Something I've wondered with alt text because I'm not used to it, is it better to be brief and give a general idea or in depth on what you put in to it to give a clearer picture for those who need it? I don't know which is preferred but want to be accessible.
