I try my best to only believe things I have good reason to believe. I try to be aware of and counter my cognitive biases. I try to believe in what is actually true about the world, about myself, and about my society. I fail a lot. I keep trying.

My Mom became radicalized by a niche Qanon group on Twitter back in 2020. It progressed until she had a psychotic break in 2021 and the outcome of that negatively affects her and our family to this day. These beliefs are not alternate political beliefs, they are poison and can ruin your life.

There is no exchange of ideas or intellectual discourse with people like that. There is only the base pleasure of pointless debate or worse. So I’ll keep my peace by finding content and people who expand my worldview, vs experiencing the vitriol of those who hate me because Fox News told them to.

That said, what’s the point of engaging with people who are incapable of seeing reason? People who have been told over and over to hate you, told you’re evil, people who become gleeful at the thought of a purge where they’d get to quite literally kill you.
