I do shit on set and play games sometimes
This is not a private matter. Devs and execs know this very well and count on it. Playing is essentially a misappropriation hence hollow designs finding success. Having a community promoting fun playstyles and creating gameadjacent incentives has always been a concern even back in the arcade days.

for most the figurative elements constitute the game. Narrative interpretations of those elements are the only thing they rely upon to build their appreciation.

Yes, totally get it. I guess knowing who to sell your game to used to implie building upon strong, already established ideas. But as boundaries between genres became looser, marketing first thinking became nonfunctional.

I find it utterly baffling that camera manufacturers weren't able to provide an acceptable look out of camera in the early days. Interestingly SD studio cemeras aimed at broadcasting were somewhat good in this regard.
