This is such an excellent point and media should be reporting it this way. (This is in reference to Miller’s preposterous but still dangerous claim earlier today about the executive branch considering suspending the writ)
The headline is deeply misleading. You can’t suspend habeas corpus just “for migrants.” As we’ve seen, ICE will pick *anyone* up. If you have legal status but no right to habeas corpus, you’ll have no ability to challenge your detention or deportation. Suspension for some is suspension for all.

Trump is golfing all weekend, and a statement on his progress went viral Saturday among members of the press for being “tone deaf” or worse, after a terrible week for the stock market and his decision to opt out of the ceremony for fallen American servicemembers to attend the golfing event.

When you look at the list of institutions they want to defund: libraries, museums, the Smithsonian, public schools, PBS, NPR, archives, you can clearly see that the real threat to an authoritarian regime is an informed and educated public

It’s nice how they’ve replicated the middle school dynamic of the insecure bully and his sniveling sidekick picking on someone surrounded by a circle of scared little boys who also try to talk shit so the bully doesn’t come after them.

Or as the right calls it, “masculinity.”

This is a perfect example of today's congressional Republican -- she confidently repeats an idiotic lie from Trump that's already been disproven, is immediately called out for the lie, and just lets what would normally be a career-ending moment roll right off her back. No brain, no shame.

Bad news for all those past voucher lobby memos pointing to Florida NAEP as a reason other states need Florida-style vouchers.
BREAKING: Florida reading, math scores fall to lowest mark in more than 20 years on nation's report card.

The achievement gap and the % of 8th graders reading below a “basic” level was the lowest in the test’s history.

My latest for the Orlando Sentinel:
Florida reading, math scores fall to lowest mark in more than 20 years on nation’s report card
The state’s 8th-grade reading score was below the national average for the first time since 2015, and its 8th-grade math score was the lowest in 20 years.

The president is bending the law to his will in firing Justice Department prosecutors who were involved in cases against him.

A prominent one tried to drag me on Twitter, saying I was only defending trans rights because I wanted to be “on the Right Side of History.” (Sneering caps in the original.)

Nope, just didn’t want to be a flaming asshole to a marginalized group. It’s not hard! You should try it!
Over the past month, I've had several posts mocking me for daring to say that I think transphobia and sexism are bad.

And all of them had this framing -- that the only possible reason anyone could be against bigotry was that they wanted to impress other people.

Basic decency just baffles them.

A) These numbers ignore the “approaching” category. Calling 70% of 8th graders “functionally illiterate” is a lie from anti-public school privatizers.

B) Nixing the DOE will do nothing to help reading. States already run education.

C) Fund public schools. Stop attacking them.
