It looks as if this oak is for the chop. Long before, maybe centuries before, its time. JRR Tolkien knew this tree, probably quite well. It was vigorous, reaching its prime, until the actions of speculators, likely just negligent, rather than deliberate, in this case, irretrievably damaged it.

Almost half a century ago, BBC Radio's The Burkiss Way explained why words like "Beefyyyyyyyyyyyy" were unacceptable. This is still the case, particularly of perfectly respectable fungi.

Despite assorted alarums and diverse diversions, I did, eventually managed to get everything frost-tender under cover, though there will be some juggling, tidying, trimming and removal from pots. One small corner being filled as it got dark:

Despite relatively high temperatures for the time of year, the remaining indoor tomatoes (Irish Gardeners' Delight) have begun to struggle with low light levels and humidity, so time to have them out and prep this old greenhouse for overwintering tender container plants.
