How can the newly built bus boarding platforms on Summer St be repurposed now that #MBTA Bus route 85 permanently cut back to Bow St in Somerville? Did we know of this in advance?

I did not realize any part of CX was Somerville. What a sneaky win for our tax base. Surely we can push the border to Lamplighter by Spring and add a new location to the Somerville brewery crawl.

That’s great! I honestly forgot or didn’t realize the scope of this project extended to Broadway. Also looks like they are ahead of the published schedule if curb work is already in progress.

It looks like they’re removing this ~50ft of lane which I agree is really not a lane reduction due to the 30ft wide unstriped right lane. The times I’ve gotten stuck on that refuge have been scary so I’m glad to see this being improved.

@somervilleinfr1.bsky.social while I wish the Facbook page fear mongering were correct that this work means the McGrath Blvd construction is starting, do you know if there are any safety improvements planned by MassDOT as part of the ongoing median reconstruction?

Boston’s new “Better Buffers” initiative plans to replace flexposts with cast-in-place curbs. Somerville has started using pre-cast curbs recently. I assume pre-cast is cheaper/quicker to implement and just as protective as cast-in-place.

This is probably part of the answer

Have we considered the “grab a brick” treatment here? More effective than a HAWK at getting drivers to look up from their phones long enough to stop.

This does still leave two gaps that might feel even more painful now.

1. During the CPX detour the two way protection extended over the bridge to connect with the path. Now there will be 400 ft of unprotected one way before getting to the path.

2. School St from the path to Highland

Looking at the map of spotted lanternfly in MA feels like there are marauders at the gates. I’m hoping the next administration can dedicate some significant resources to invasive species management. Plants like Black Swallow Wort are so pervasive and many don’t know/care they have it.

Featuring my favorite building in my neighborhood, which would be a great addition on any street in Somerville.

It’s remarkable seeing @mayorkatjana.bsky.social remember Gilman Sq exists every two years. So much enthusiasm for “Somerville’s High Line” when she is the one who mothballed the plan for 4 years and told the neighborhood council last month that her staff has more important priorities than Gilman.

The question phrasing seems to be heavily biased towards the admins desired outcome. Trum Field is a bad location for a school and it has nothing to do with the loss of field space and everything to do with the fact that half the catchment area is Medford.

Somerville looking pretty bad on this map where multifamily is defined as 4+ units, not much better than surrounding suburbs. We need to do much more than legalized triple deckers. @willieburnleyjr.bsky.social @jake4somerville.bsky.social

Have we considered the potential for a Somerville rendition of St Peter’s Fiesta at this site?

Does this bio-retention basin work differently than others we have? The drain inlet (or outlet?) seems to be much higher than the bottom of basin, with rocks that seem to show water will flow from the sewer into the basin. Does the basin fill with water before it drains?
June 30, 2025 at 2:51 PM
@somervilleinfr1.bsky.social to avoid drainage and engineering impacts on the bridge, is it possible to procure a pre-built modular “floating curb extension/cut” similar to these bus stops used by other cities? I’m not sure what the prospects are on a bridge engineering study for a real curb cut.

A bad angle but my favorite for the commitment this person made to carry a life sized penguin around the whole time.

This proposal at 33 Mystic in Somerville is a great example of why we need point access block reform, so much space consumed in this 8 unit building for the two staircases. @mikeconnollyma.bsky.social

Did not appear to be functioning for the last storm, I’m curious what the Mayor’s office says about it. I should’ve taken more pictures but this was every curb cut on both School and Broadway. @benforward3.bsky.social

This is typically the route I take from Ryan after Volo games there in the off-peak hours. There are missing curb cuts on Main (before it becomes Mystic) which makes taking the sidewalk to Lombardi not possible. I’m a pretty confident cyclist but not enough to take the lane in Sullivan.
