Well said Luke. I’m confident we will see strong ambition and action.
Some thoughts from me in Renew Economy.

Labor has a once in a generation opportunity to lock in an economic transformation that would dwarf the achievements of Hawke and Keating in the 1980s. Or they could play it safe and miss the moment.

Game on.

Labor won the election. It was a mighty victory. Now it is time to win the future

Nuclear energy in any meaningful form is dead in Australia. Progress on decarbonising, via renewables, can proceed on a sensible path.

My guilty habit is never watching political debates but absolutely feasting on the hot takes about them afterwards and even during them.

A thread on flexible generation on Australia's NEM.
Historically, flexible gas & hydro generators have complemented less flexible coal, to ensure supply can meet demand.
In the future, flexible generation will be dominated by batteries & they'll be also used to firm PV & wind.

I think I’ve seen this film before. There’s got to be a better way. It still surprises me there is not a business model to help/automate consumers to find a better deal.

A periodic reminder that if we taxed carbon efficiently many coal mines would be uneconomic. Those that remained would pay for the damage they impose. The proceeds could be reinvested in high priority needs for Australia.

Really important contribution from @shamilton.bsky.social. Picks up many points others have missed.
The coalition's nuclear plan released on Friday achieves its claimed cost savings not primarily by nuclear being cheaper than firmed renewables but by replacing firmed renewables with existing coal power. That results in an additional 1 billion tonnes of emissions (worth ~$180b).

Choosing the "progressive change" scenario - with lower economic growth, and significant decline in large industrial loads - as your preferred version of the future is really quite a choice from the coalition...
