Your obnoxious pony, also on fedi: [email protected]

(Actually generally more on fedi tbh.)

Prague 🇨🇿, public transit, "urbanism" (complaining), trains, some cloud computing and Linux, cats, little of everything else.
At this rate, if there really is a major war in the 30’s, it could end up so bad that they would not even be wrong. Like 1930 was materially better than 1950 for like almost literally everyone not in us.

Pohraničníci is definitely a word.

And of course, most of the theming is on the bottom plate. Guess which part of the keyboard you are not ever going to see when using it. Yes, that one.

It would probably be reasonable someone inspect things when you insure your home against fire, but they probably don't care enough to do it in person and with more than just some basic stats.

Thing is that I don't think firemen can randomly inspect single family residential buildings. But it must have been a case in the past as she spoke about it as something that had happened to her at some point?

I remember my grandma talking about their single family house attic being full of crap and she was well aware it's a fire hazard (it was a brick building tho, so it would probably only cost them a roof) and the firemen inspection would yell at them if they saw it.

Is that a literal quote? Like, ok, no Moscow or Petersburg specifically but feel free to bomb like Voronezh or Yaroslavl just because you feel like it? This plan is so weird.

Before that of course a somewhat extended stop in the pre-renovation Motherwell. And the few still standing housing blocks on the horizon. There are things that can warm up even an Eastern European.

(My first impression of Glasgow was oh wait I can't get out of the central station because most exits are closed by the police because of a suicide on the adjacent street.)
December 29, 2025 at 10:35 AM
My unhinged take is that Glasgow is really underrated for a UK city (-ish? I mean it's pretty tiny still) because it's conventionally quite ugly (it is).

I have a feeling the pointless war thing is no longer really taken all that seriously anymore? I mean, among historians, even hobbyist ones. The unwashed masses may think that (if they have an idea what the WW1 was even about anymore).

Something like this: www.vagonweb.cz/razeni/vlak....

They have then mostly discontinued direct trains like this and the ones they introduced back had a driving cab, but due to great planning, those are now unusable as they lack ETCS.

They stop in Praha-Holešovice which is, well, a fairly reasonable station with good transit connections (it's directly on the metro). It however lacks good connections to other train services. You will have to take those two metro stations to get to the hbf. That's easy and fast, but still.
December 28, 2025 at 7:42 PM
It was 20 years ago.

But historically, until the new generous bridges and tunnels to the hbf opening in 2010, then-existing Berlin-Vienna trains took the same route.
December 28, 2025 at 7:40 PM
Could this be just because they still haven't bothered to get the driving cabs working? Well maybe, they have 21 minutes in Holešovice which is a lot, but either way, it's kind of insane. What are you thinking?
December 28, 2025 at 7:28 PM
I mean they can. Of course they can. It’s a fixed function of the station track which they know. (And even display.) It’s just that nobody bothered to do it.
