Trauma conditioning lies to us about how important others' approval is. It just does. It knows getting us to believe that others' approval is as (or more!) important than oxygen is an amazing way to keep us anxious & focused on things other than our own needs, goals, & recovery.

People-pleasing is a mechanism for control. The goal is to get people to like you, even at the expense of being your authentic self.

Anxiety can look like control when you’re afraid you’ll fail at something.
Anxiety exists on a spectrum and your way of coping with fear can be anywhere from under-responding to over-responding.

Anxiety isn’t always racing heart & nervousness. It’s people-pleasing because you fear being judged. It’s not sharing your authentic thoughts because you don’t want someone to stop liking you. It’s overthinking about something then feeling stupid when everything worked out in the end. Anxiety sucks.
