I love people, working, reading, working out and watching the Toronto Raptors! I try to lovingly mock most things, with myself being the first target.
Oh no, that sucks!

Shea Serrano is a NYT best-selling author from the San Antonio area, he made Twitter fun back in mid 2010's while extolling the virtues of Tim Duncan and the Spurs and posting pictures of delicious Mexicana food with the # Mexicans Are Perfect.

I think he just rubs some the wrong way, though I do think he's unique. Interesting that he ended up on the Pacers and Tatum, who reminds me of what I've heard of Hondo, a decent man who wanted to win so bad and could be taken for granted by the national press, but never the local.

I don't mind Hali being a bit obnoxious, Reggie Miller was and it made the NBA more fun. Add Brown, Edwards, SGA, Jokic, Giannis to that list as well. All different, but all focused on winning, and not as high on their own supply. Tatum is the modern day Hondo, low key killer.

Holy heartburn Joe!

I will never understand the fascination with LeBron. Great player, decent person, full of hubris, fun to watch, but Jokic, Steph and others just as fun. Drama queen that seems to believe brand above reality (see Lakers 2021-2023 and his attempts to convince people he knows more than he does.)

I see this and all I can think of is Shea Serrano saying 'Mexicans are perfect'.

I think you see similar traits in all the great winners, though their personalities are very different. Exceptions being LeBron, maybe Magic (Magic was a bit of a coach killer, though I think for good reasons) and Hakeem (wanted to leave Houston for valid reasons, was a true pro during that time).

I don't know about that, but just as Brunson reminds me of Bird, he also reminds me of the great Tim Duncan, show up, do your job, listen to your coach, stay humble, don't let the media build you up, be polite and respectful.
Can't wait for the final!

Also idiots like Kyrie didn't help either.

Melo, CP3, KD, Harden, Westbrook and LeBron and their aristocratic attitudes (I don't mind LBJ as much) are a part of the reason the NBA lost steam in the 2010s. This generation of player is going to build it back hopefully.
Curry is the outlier, he's old school.

There will never be another John Wooden, two incredible players, with very different demeanors in Walton and Jabbar, both loved and cherished him.

I really didn't think Brown would outperform Thibs this much, but the offense is just so much better while the defense hasn't been turned back that much to accommodate it.
Helps when your star player's attitude is 'Show up, work hard, shut up, adapt.' Big difference from the Carmelo (yuck) years.

Mo, we get to see them go at it again in just 9 days! Life and Ball is so good!

Everyone that likes basketball and great writing should read 'Breaks of the Game' by Tom Halberstam about the post championship Blazers.

I can also see that. Demeanour wise, I think they both fit.
December 14, 2025 at 5:36 AM
Absolutely. Brunson reminds me, despite the physical differences, of Larry Bird. Smart, crafty, tough as nails, you better bring it every night because he sure as hell will. Oh and absolute clutch.

Holy crap, I've never been a fan of her sister's music, but I freaking love that tune!
