Somehow, a habeas petition showed up on Aileen Cannon’s desk

To be fair the pardon power was grossly overbroad even before that decision

It’s been said a million times but he really used to be better at this. He can’t even spar with reporters anymore.

Once again NYT wholly accepts Trump's framing. Here's what the order actually does:
1. AG to set task force to sue state AI laws on constitutional (??) grounds
2. Commerce Sec. to review state AI laws and report the ones he doesn't like (1/2)

She isn't being released though

Mostly this will create extra work for overstretched federal litigators and opportunities for ambitious state AGs. What it will not do, especially in the short term, is "neuter state AI laws"

(2/2)
3. Try to cut off remaining broadband funds to states if they can
4. Explore other discretionary grants to cut if they can
5. FTC Chair will issue opinion saying state AI laws are totally preempted by the FTCA
6. Proposes legislative priorities that Congress will ignore.

lol there's bluffing and then there's *bluffing*
The weird thing is that I can't find evidence that Trump has made a threat like this publicly.

It seems like Heritage is either freelancing or else laundering an administration threat in a way that gives Trump plausible deniability.

Can Congress make the Secretary of the Treasury strictly liable for illegal impoundment dollars? There's only one way to find out.
