I don't feel bad at all for JD Vance's wife, she's a dead-eyed Yale striver who wants this as bad as him and made a conscious choice to put on the populism skinsuit. But I do feel kinda bad for his kids. No matter how insulated, imagine being a brown kid named Vivek and that being your dad.
But they would never call it that publicly, which is itself a bit of a tell
They set the reconciliation baseline to make the tax cuts look deficit neutral on paper when they clearly weren’t. Which I guess you could say is technically going nuclear since they wouldn’t be able to use reconciliation otherwise
He’s demanded this of Senate Republicans at least half a dozen times since first taking office. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Trump: “…BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THE DEMOCRATS HAVE GONE STONE COLD “CRAZY,” THE CHOICE IS CLEAR — INITIATE THE “NUCLEAR OPTION,” GET RID OF THE FILIBUSTER AND, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
I don’t know if I can go that far but it’s interesting that for all the handwringing, I don’t think I’ve seen Ciattarelli lead a single poll.
I’m not going to pay to read this but if its about the galaxy-brained VP-to-Prez thing, somebody already asked Trump about that and he said it was dumb lol
It’s funny to me that even Trump thinks it’s a stupid idea
I get that sometimes you just need a job but I’m now curious how she got involved in this campaign in the first place

A Detroit police officer appeared in court virtually wearing his uniform top with no pants on

Judge: “You got some pants on, officer?”
It’ll pay for the troops’ meals for a few weeks
From what I can gather, Yglesias thinks Jared Golden is the only one who can beat Collins and since Golden isn’t running, he’s kind of given up

it’s kind of funny that the New York Times, which is probably at least 50% Ivy League on the editorial side, is one of the primary drivers of contemporary anti-intellectualism, but not really funny in a good way

When It Happens, watching Vance try to strong arm a GOP caucus that doesn’t fear him at all, is going to be very funny

I think this framing falls prey to the idea that if only X had been done differently, the case might not have failed—unfortunately, as the article itself indicates, there was really no option but to bring the prosecution in South Florida. sometimes you just lose.
How Jack Smith’s strongest case against Donald Trump collapsed
Seeking to get the classified documents case to a jury before the 2024 election, the special counsel made a fateful decision that some in his office saw as a misstep.

the contrast between “we audited the White House logs and a Parkinson’s doctor visited the Biden White House” and “Trump says his health is perfect and he is healthy enough to be dictator for life!” is crazy
President Trump said he had an MRI earlier this month, telling reporters Monday that the results had been “perfect” but declining to say why his doctors had ordered the scan. He also reiterated that he was interested in serving a third term.
Trump Says a Recent M.R.I. Scan Was ‘Perfect,’ and He’d ‘Love’ a Third Term
President Trump made the comments on the second day of his trip to Asia. The Constitution limits presidents to two terms, but Mr. Trump has suggested he might try to circumvent it.

This is the funniest part, someone told him about the VP-to-third-term scheme and he’s like, ehh

Possible this is just a power play to push the holdouts over the line, but I also wonder if the surprise Virginia redistricting news flipped some votes.
Indiana Gov. Mike Braun calls special session as Donald Trump continues to pressure legislature to re-gerrymander its map. State Senate President Rodric Bray's team insisted just days ago: "The votes aren’t there for redistricting."

might be one of the funniest videos i’ve ever seen
There was that viral video of the ICE agent getting pulled over for a DUI in Florida, and while the cops were probably being way more patient with him than they would for anyone else, they still arrested and charged him. wapo.st/3L5spoB
ICE agent threatens to check deputy’s status during DUI stop, asks if he’s Haitian
Scott Deiseroth told a Florida sheriff’s deputy that he would have his colleague deported if “not legit,” body-camera video shows.

It's honestly so much weirder than if it had been the Binance guy, who at least had a real incentive to bribe Trump. Is Mellon just a dumb fails heir who has no idea how little his money actually bought?
The guy giving the military $130 million is symbolically problematic but practically meaningless, and the incongruity is hard to reconcile.
