My takeaway as a non US resident from all these executive orders is how crazy it the US president has such power! For a nation that prides itself on getting rid of kings, this feels the closest to monarchic power in the 'west'

The deployment of anti -terror legislation against left wing groups in the UK - from Palestinian Action to Kurdish left wing groups should give everyone pause. There is something inherently illiberal in a liberal society which supposedly values "free speech" about Draconian anti terror legislation.

Happy birthday Friedrich Engels for those who celebrate! This wayward son of a rich textile industrialist did more than bankroll his more famous buddy's writings, he was a fiercely original revolutionary thinker in his own right.

Happy Birthday, Friedrich Engels
Friedrich Engels was born 200 years ago today. We should thank him for helping out his friend Karl Marx — but also for the critique of capitalism he produced in his own right.

The situation with the ICC warrants and the outrage of the US and western European allies lays bare what most non European nations have always known - that the 'West' refuses to play by the same rules it enforces on everyone else. As far as international law goes, some people are above the law.

'If in Orwell's novel Big Brother was an allegory for Stalin, the "little father", the modern Big Brother watching us has no face and is not an individual, it is the Global Economy in its entirety.
