Just spell checking 'refugees' and was horrified by the news results. No human is illegal. Everyone fleeing war deserves safety regardless of location and skin colour #uk #immigration

Do we remember when @yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social was pleading week after week for safe and legal routes as a way to combat the surge in refugees? Where are the safe and legal routes now? Just more rhetoric following on from the tories and strengthening reform #refugees NO HUMAN IS ILLEGAL

If people don’t have access to a good standard of living due to government failure they are more likely to choose assisted dying. This is social pressure. Until we address why disabled people are made to feel like a burden on their families and the state it’s not safe to have this debate. #nhs

First we must fix social care and make hospices gov funded
November 29, 2024 at 10:27 AM
On assisted dying: There are 50 MPs wanting to widen it to include ‘being unable to self care’. There are no safeguards to prevent its expansion People will choose this as they don’t have good quality other options. First we must fix social care and make hospices gov funded #nhs #assisteddying

Don't miss @danielhewittitv.bsky.social's timely investigation into the dire underfunding of palliative care - tomorrow night, ITV, 8.30pm.

70% of UK hospices are in deficit.

The work they do is so precious - yet they’re cutting jobs, beds and home care.

Do we care?

The assisted dying legislation is being discussed far too close to the non consensual DNRs that were placed on disabled people during the pandemic #disabled #disability #pandemic #assisteddying #euthanasia

There is no impact assessment for the #assisteddying #euthanasia
How do we decide who get care for suicidality and who is offered assisted dying?

Like him, I am an atheist.

But I witness daily the avoidable suffering endured by patients not receiving the palliative care they need.

And I think it is unconscionable to offer citizens a choice to die if we fail to offer them the care that can make life worth living.

Some of yall have gone really quick from “never trust politicians or the state” to “they won’t expand the assisted dying legislation because they promised”. 50 MPs have already tried to expand it to include “lack of ability to self care”. We need #assistmetodie #assistustolive #disability #politics

Right now we need the Gov to #assistustolive rather than #assisteddyinglegislation #disabled

What the UK needs is massive change.

End Brexit.
End the House of Lords.
Tax the rich.
Renationalise all the essentials, Water, Power, Rail, Mail.

And change it so they can't be privatised again without a Referendum.

Nationalise all utilities and public transport.

This is a huge intersectional issue. Streetlights are essential to public safety. This will cause more crime and pressure on the health service to support the survivors of crime. It also means people have to take longer ways home/ to work which is very difficult for disabled #austerity #ukpolitics

PA’s are the Gov deregulating healthcare to plug understaffed wards causing very predictable dangers to patient safety. Gov will do anything other than fix the NHS e.g. better pay and working conditions/ forgive student debt/ upgrade hospitals/ invest in prevention #nhs #safestaffingsaveslives
Highly recommend reading this piece on the increasingly widespread use of PAs to replace doctors in the NHS. It’s an issue that horrifies many of us.
The debate around the use of physician associates in the NHS is certain to be debated on this app as it was over in the other place

Last month I published this long read after speaking to Merseyside medics about their concerns

I have seen a concerning rise in instagram accounts posting videos of women drunk on nights out where the women clearly don't know they are being filmed. These videos have millions of views and are v disturbing. The cameras are often filming their chests and skirt lengths. #misogyny #womenssafety

There’s nothing more demoralising thanks reaching out for help/support and the help/support actively causing trauma
Trying to navigate healthcare and benefits for a chronically ill and disabled person is EXHAUSTING. Sometimes it’s worse than the disability. How ironic that our ‘support’ systems are some of the most ableist and dehumanising things we encounter.
