One of the all-time great rock/pop LPs, up there with the best of the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Monkees, or Bowie. Not one weak track and the one cover ("Soldier of Love," first recorded by Arthur Alexander) demonstrates Crenshaw's superb taste and deep knowledge of pop history. Five gold stars.
Marshall Crenshaw’s self-titled debut album was released today in 1982 on Warner Bros. The buoyant “Someday, Someway” was the lp’s breakout single, peaking at #36 in the U.S. Crenshaw has a number of jangle-pop gems here, including “She Can’t Dance” “Cynical Girl” & “There She Goes Again”
