When you put your headphones in to listen to your book while you work and can’t figure out why you’re hearing a Baby Shark video instead, then remember you didn’t quit YouTube after your toddler watched your phone while you did her hair… DEFINITELY not my current audiobook 👀 😂 (Gold- Raven Kennedy)

Does Raven Kennedy know the word “brown”? I should go through and count the number of time she says, “bark colored” in the Plated Prisoner series…

Book pet peeve: “I want nothing more than Thing 1, but I want Thing 2 even more.” So, then you DO want something more than Thing 1…

Girlhood by Melissa Febos

“It is a darker time for many than we are often willing to acknowledge. …we learn to adopt a story about ourselves-what our value is… and to privilege the… power of others over our own. This training of our minds can lead… to hatred for and the abuse of our own bodies…”

While it’s not even quite drinking age (in the states, 21), I’m still SUPER impressed with how well Going Postal has held up and stayed relevant. The political and economical commentary is 😘🤌

But on the other hand- 20 years later and we’re still dealing with this capitalist bull$h!t?? 😒😑

“The others… bickering over trigonometry. Moist tried not to listen; he got lost when maths started to get silly.” #relatable

I love when an author finds a clever way around specifics and details of a system they don’t *need* to explain. Pratchett does this beautifully in Going Postal. The protagonist just zones out and explains WHY he doesn’t need the info, then zones back in for the point. 😆

I truly cannot fathom the continued HP fandom. I get that you love it- but how can you support something created by and benefiting someone so hateful?
*No one. I mean literally no one. Not a soul. Not even a church mouse.

Tailspin by Sandra Brown
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
This book was pretty formulaic, but there were still surprises at every turn (nothing groundbreaking) and while the pace was only medium, it kept me coming back for more. Overall, would recommend, but I don’t expect it to be the next big thing on BookTok.

The Dinner List by Rebecca Serle
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it. The premise sounds great as a way for the FMC to come to terms with her past, but I found the characters unlikable and was annoyed by the relationship the plot rests on. I’ll be skeptical to read others from this author.

“A thinking tyrant, it seemed to Vetinari, had a much harder job than a ruler raised to power by some idiot vote-yourself-rich system like democracy. At least he could tell the people he was their fault.”
Terry Pratchett, Going Postal

Going Postal 17%- Weird without being abstract. Could be more engrossing but is low stakes enough to be cozy while high stakes enough to be engaging.

I thought I’d get over it but I’m not… his name is MOIST!? Sir Terry? Why??

I’ve really struggled lately to find the balance between fighting back and staying hopeful and being present without losing my whimsy. I think Mr. Pratchett might help me walk that line.

“Steal five dollars and you're a common thief. Steal thousands and you're either the government or a hero.” Terry Pratchett, Going Postal

The Fastest Way to Fall, Page 75: I know it’s early but I’m not into it yet. The banter isn’t banter-ing and the “thinking about them” thing feels weird when they don’t know what the other looks like? “Yes,” crossed a line. I’m also really bummed out by all the mysterious trauma in MMC’s backstory.

Page 43: I love the very specific ways they talk about weight loss related to the fitness world. Denise talked about the “description in the mirror” scene at her Book Fest panel and I didn’t love it, but it wasn’t the worst I’ve read by far, and I see the purpose.

Where do you go to read/ post book reviews?

I have my booksta account but I regularly have to cut down my review due to the character limit- my most recent is 2636, 436 characters over. It’s 444 words, plus I like to add other info like rating, trigger warnings, genre and trip, spice level, etc.

I finished Unravel Me. I didn’t hate it, but I’m glad it’s over. I still haven’t decided if I’ll continue the series. My favorite Goodreads review:

Subject: Helen 2.0
Time of Death: 10:23pm
Cause of Death: Massive Brain Aneurysm due to Excessive Eye-Rolling
Primary Suspect: Juliette Ferrars

Reading Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (Book 2 in the Shatter Me series) and I am so invested in the premise but I think it’s just too YA for me- processing everything through the internal lense of a traumatized 17 year old in a love triangle is distracting at best, agonizing at worst. Am I just old? 😅

Going to try live… skeeting? as I read. At least an update after a day of reading.
