It's mostly cowardice. They don't want to deal with the "mess" and possibly admit they're wrong etc. I think a lot of it is how easy it is now just to 'block' ppl, phone/sm/txt. In olden times you could just ring them off the hook forcing them to finally answer their phone so might as well tell em.

For me (in hindsight) it began in my 20s as self-medication for anxiety. I was having panic attacks after a bad breakup and noticed that liquor (not beer) literally calmed the nerves. 35 years later and here we are. Thankfully no one got hurt in the process. At least physically so.

Btw not many know this, but alcohol is the only addictive substance that you're not supposed to quit cold turkey. Can lead to heart attacks. Otherwise theoretically you can even quit fentanyl et al cold turkey without risking your life.

Another damn detox. Fell off the wagon around xmas. It's just the 4-day variety to get past the dt's without having medical issues, not the 30-day retreat like Jake did. On the plus side, hospital food!
