Our democracy has hundreds and hundreds of statutes designed to protect children, indeed specifically to protect children from adults who would abuse them from either inside their family or outside of it. The idea that government should *not* protect kids against abuse is wholly novel and dangerous.

In both the case of hormone therapy for minors and conversion therapy for minors, you see the left pointing at evidence that disallowing the former and allowing the latter leads to significantly higher suicide rates for kids. And in both cases MAGA says, who cares? This is about what parents *want*.

This case is about protecting kids from abuse, which is why corporate media leaves that out of its headline—falsely making readers think this is a blanket conversion therapy ban rather than a question of what protections minors receive—and why MAGA is, as ever, on the side that doesn't protect kids.

If an adult wants to subject themselves to psychological torture, they are free to do so, of course. But Supreme Court Justices saying that ideological radicals have a First Amendment right to abuse your child face-to-face as part of a fake medical treatment the child cannot truly object to is sick.

The reason this therapy is used on kids is because it's often abusive, coercive, manipulative and dangerous—no kid would choose it if they had adult faculties, making Justices' claims that the therapy is "voluntary" profoundly misleading. And the idea that therapy has no medical component is insane.

Bondi didn't valiantly fend something off, she refused to answer legitimate questions before Congress because the answers would be horrifying and politically inconvenient

Remember, a major component of the MAGA cult establishing an alternate reality—a term I use here literally rather than figuratively—is getting Trump supporters to *actually* (not merely rhetorically) believe that Joe Biden was president in 2020, when the pandemic started.
